The UAE has sent urgent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan to assist those affected by the earthquake that struck Herat province in the west of the country, resulting in the deaths and injuries of thousands, mostly women and children.
Today, Friday, October 13, 2023, several relief planes loaded with large quantities of food, medicine, medical supplies, and in-kind assistance for the Afghan people left UAE soil to meet the needs of those affected by the earthquake.
It is noted that Herat province in western Afghanistan experienced an earthquake that resulted in one death and 130 injuries this past Wednesday, following days after a similarly strong earthquake occurred in the same region causing hundreds of casualties.
The U.S. Geological Survey and the German Research Center for Geosciences estimated the strength of the earthquake at approximately 6.3 magnitude on the Richter scale.
