The International Independent Commission of Inquiry established by the United Nations regarding violations in the Palestinian territories confirmed today, Thursday, that the Israeli occupying state is implementing a systematic policy to destroy the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip through deliberate attacks on medical personnel and facilities, which constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity.
According to a statement issued by the United Nations Office in Amman, the chairwoman of the commission, Navi Pillay, pointed to the deterioration of healthcare in the Gaza Strip due to "Israeli attacks on health facilities," which represent a direct assault on the right to health, negatively impacting civilians, especially children who suffer from the repercussions of the collapse of the healthcare system.
The report confirmed that many Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons, including children, have been subjected to harsh and systematic treatment, involving torture and sexual violence, acts which are considered crimes against humanity.
