United Nations rapporteurs called for an immediate halt to arms sales to Israel on the grounds that they will be used in the Gaza Strip and violate international law.
This came in a statement issued by the UN rapporteurs today, Friday, regarding the ban on arms sales to Israel.
The statement said: "Arms sales to Israel should be stopped immediately because they will be used in Gaza and violate international law," according to Anadolu Agency.
It emphasized the necessity for all countries to ensure that parties to the armed conflict respect international humanitarian law according to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and international law.
The statement welcomed the Dutch Court of Appeal's decision to halt the sale of parts of "F-35" fighters to Israel due to violations of international humanitarian law.
It pointed out that more than 29,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 69,000 others injured since last October 7, noting that Israel ignored repeated calls to comply with international law.
It explained that the need to impose an arms embargo on Israel increased after the International Court of Justice's decisions on January 26, related to reasonable evidence of the risk of genocide in Gaza and the continued serious harm caused to civilians since then.
