Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden discussed with the Canadian Ambassador to Tunisia Patrice Cosentino ways to enhance cooperation relations between her country and Canada on both bilateral and multilateral levels, especially in light of the challenges posed by the difficult global situation due to the Russian-Ukrainian war and its economic repercussions on all countries of the world, especially developing countries.
During the meeting held at Kasbah Palace, Bouden praised Canada’s support for her country, especially during the spread of the Corona pandemic through the global access system for Corona vaccines (COVAX) and providing health assistance to enable Tunisia to overcome the difficult situation, stressing the necessity to work on developing trade exchanges between the two countries, supporting the export of olive oil and traditional industry products, and importing grains.
The Tunisian Council of Ministers stated in a communiqué that Najla Bouden reviewed the set of reforms implemented by the government aimed at reviving the economy, qualifying small and medium enterprises, reforming public finance, and stimulating investment.
In this context, the Canadian ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to develop cooperation in the field of agriculture and higher education, reviewing Canadian initiatives in the field of economic and social integration of women and supporting small sectors and crafts, confirming his country’s support for Tunisia in its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and its readiness to stand by Tunisia in this delicate situation.
