US President Joe Biden welcomed the extension of a United Nations-mediated truce between the parties to the conflict in Yemen. He said Saudi Arabia showed "courageous leadership" by endorsing and implementing the terms.

Biden stated in a statement that "the past two months in Yemen are among the most peaceful months in seven years thanks to the truce agreed upon in April."

He added, "The United States will remain engaged in this process until a final and lasting solution is reached."

The UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the extension of the current truce for two months. Grundberg said in a statement published by his office that the parties to the conflict responded "positively" to the UN's proposal to renew the truce, with the renewed truce coming into effect upon the expiry of the current truce.

He explained that the truce was extended under the same terms as the original agreement that came into effect on the second of April. Grundberg said, "Yemenis have witnessed the tangible benefits of the truce over the past two months."

The UN envoy also expressed his gratitude for the international community's support in implementing and renewing the truce, especially the support of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, and members of the UN Security Council.

The European Union mission in Yemen said that EU ambassadors welcome the extension of the truce in Yemen. The mission explained via its Twitter account that the ambassadors expressed hope that the truce extension would lead to a permanent ceasefire, emphasizing the necessity of reopening roads around Taiz.

And lifting the siege in the region to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
