Former US President Donald Trump posted a bond of $91.63 million while appealing the verdict against him in E. Jean Carroll's defamation case.

The notice of Trump's bond and appeal was filed with the federal court in New York today, Friday.

In January, a federal jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million in damages due to Trump's defamatory statements in which he denied raping her, saying she was not his type, and accused her of fabricating the claim to boost her book sales.

The insurance company Chubb secured the bond on behalf of Trump, which the former president signed on Tuesday. Under the bond terms, Chubb will only guarantee the appeal of the $83.3 million judgment, not any future appeals.

The bond amount is larger than the judgment because district courts typically require a party to pay 110 percent of the bond.

Trump also faces a March 25 deadline to pay another $454 million in the civil fraud case filed by the New York Attorney General.

In Carroll's case, Trump said the jury's decision was excessive and should be reduced. During the trial, Carroll's lawyers told the jury that Trump should be punished with significant damages so that he would actually stop his defamatory behavior.

In addition to these two judgments against him, Trump also faces increasing legal fees he owes in the four criminal trials he is facing during his campaign for another presidential term.
