Hydro One said the massive power outage that darkened a wide area of downtown Toronto may have been caused by a crane that pulled down some high-voltage wires in the city's Port Lands.
The company's spokesperson, Tiziana Paciga Rosa, said they are investigating reports that the control device may have come into contact with the lines while being moved through the ship's channel by a barge on Thursday morning.
Rosa said the crews are working "as fast as possible and safely" to restore power.
She explained that they are doing their best to remotely reroute power to the areas affected by the outage, but they have not been able to provide a precise timeline for when service will be fully restored.
Toronto Hydro previously said that more than 10,000 customers were affected by the outage at some point.
