The CEO of a technology company in Toronto says the four-day workweek experiment has been a great success, and the experiment even delivered an "unexpected" result.

Ross Winright, CEO of Alida, said the software company implemented four-day workweeks for its 500 employees in early June, and the two-month pilot ended this week.

Company officials said the decision for the shortened workweek came from employee feedback and was driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Winright told CP24 on Wednesday: "The initial results are great." "Clearly, employees are happier and more balanced."

Winright added that the company did not cut salaries to achieve a four-day workweek. He said, "It's about improving balance for our employees and helping invest in their mental health."

The company will also take the next six weeks to review the results of the experiment and hopes that the four-day workweeks will become a permanent part of the company's benefits package.

Organizers behind it say there are significant improvements in people's well-being.

The experiment, conducted through partnerships between 4 Day Week Global and researchers at Cambridge, Boston College, and Oxford University, includes nearly 3,300 workers at 70 different companies.
