The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is holding, virtually, an extraordinary ministerial meeting tomorrow, Monday, regarding the repeated incidents of burning copies of the Holy Quran in both Sweden and Denmark.
Today, Sunday, the preparatory work for the eighteenth extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation began at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where senior officials held their preparatory meeting to raise their recommendations for tomorrow's meeting.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs in the organization, Yusuf bin Muhammad Al-Dubaishi, confirmed in his speech that his organization has been closely following the numerous incidents of abuse against Islamic sanctities, as it has consistently rejected and condemned such actions while warning about the seriousness of these provocative acts. He pointed out that the Executive Committee had held two meetings since last January to discuss these incidents, and the Council of Foreign Ministers of the organization had adopted other decisions for this purpose during its 49th session in Nouakchott.
He also indicated that the Secretary-General of the organization, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, has conducted intensive communications with senior officials of member and non-member states and international organizations to raise awareness of the seriousness of this issue, as the General Secretariat has regularly included it in various political consultations with officials of countries and partner international organizations. The organization’s missions and its group of member states in both New York and Geneva have engaged in intensive activity and initiatives to inform the bodies in the relevant organizations about the ongoing violations against symbols and Islamic sanctities.
