The Michelin Guide, one of the most prominent references for food lovers in the world, has published its first rankings in Canada, highlighting 74 restaurants in Toronto, the largest Canadian city.
Inspectors affiliated with the guide awarded one star to twelve restaurants for offering "high-quality cuisine, worth visiting," and two stars to one restaurant for providing "excellent cooking, worth a visit," according to what the guide wrote.
The director of the Michelin Guide, Gwendal Poullennec, announced in a statement that "Toronto proves that it deserves to be the first choice for the Michelin Guide in northern Canada," specifically pointing to the "variety of cuisines" there which reflects the "global spirit" of the city.
Since May, inspectors affiliated with the guide have been visiting restaurants in the Canadian city to evaluate them, classifying them based on a methodology that the guide keeps confidential.
The thirteen restaurants that received the guide's classifications offer a diverse range of cuisines, starting from dishes relying on contemporary culinary art to Italian and Japanese cuisine, the restaurants offering the latter receiving the highest number of classifications in addition to the two Michelin stars ranking.
The Michelin Guide also praised the quality of culinary art in 17 restaurants that provide dishes at reasonable prices.
Poullennec said that "Toronto originally represents a multicultural place where people meet to enjoy its architecture, arts, and nature, and it has now become a global destination for food lovers."
