Michelin Guide, one of the most prominent references for food lovers in the world, published its first rankings in Canada, highlighting 74 restaurants in Toronto, the largest Canadian city.

Inspectors affiliated with the guide awarded a one-star rating to twelve restaurants for offering "high-quality cuisine worth visiting," and a two-star rating to one restaurant for providing "excellent cooking, worth a visit," according to what the guide wrote.

Michelin Guide director Gwenael Polincic announced in a statement that "Toronto shows that it deserves to be the first choice for the Michelin Guide in Northern Canada," particularly pointing to the "diversity of cuisines" in the city that reflects the city's "global spirit."

Inspectors affiliated with the guide started visiting restaurants in the Canadian city from May to evaluate them, and classified them based on a methodology kept confidential by the guide.

The thirteen restaurants that received guide ratings offer a diverse range of cuisines, ranging from dishes that rely on contemporary cooking art to Italian and Japanese cuisines, with the restaurants serving its dishes receiving the largest number of classifications in addition to the two Michelin star rating.

The Michelin Guide also praised the quality of culinary art in 17 restaurants offering dishes at reasonable prices.

Polincic said that "Toronto is fundamentally a multicultural place where people meet to enjoy its architecture, arts, and nature, and it has currently become a global destination for food lovers."
