The regional director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, Ahmed Al-Mandhari, stated that Libya is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to storm "Daniel," which caused the largest and worst floods the country has seen, affecting between 1.5 and 1.8 million people in the eastern region of the country.

Moreover, the mayor of Derna in eastern Libya confirmed that the death toll from the floods caused by storm "Daniel" could exceed 20,000.

In this context, Al-Mandhari explained that "all those affected by the floods are in urgent need of forms of immediate support, basic health services, and life-saving interventions, and that the affected individuals are at increased risk of waterborne diseases and other diseases that spread in similar conditions."

This comes at a time when relief teams have prepared mass graves to bury the bodies retrieved from Derna, after the city faced significant destruction.
