Sudan is experiencing a fierce war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has resulted in the destruction of many of the country's infrastructure and the deaths of hundreds of military personnel and civilians, causing heavy losses for the state. During his visit to Kassala today, Saturday, Sudan's Sovereign Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan stated that the army and the people are determined to defeat the rebellion.

He added that the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces currently witnessed in the country confirms "the need for a professional army."

Al-Burhan announced his welcome of any support aimed at reconstruction, emphasizing "the rejection of dictates."

He said: "We will work to maintain the unity of the country and ensure the safety of the Sudanese citizen," calling on the rebels to lay down their arms.

He added, "There are war crimes committed in Khartoum and Darfur, and those responsible must be held accountable."

He continued, "The war in Sudan serves specific individuals and will end soon," indicating that the current war threatens to fragment Sudan.

The commander of the Sudanese army confirmed in a speech following the meeting that "the armed forces do not seek to continue in power," and that "what the army seeks is to hold free and fair elections."

He added, "We aim to complete the democratic transitional path until the Sudanese people choose who will govern them."
