The French special envoy to Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, called on Lebanese officials to find a "third option" to resolve the crisis of electing a president for the country after nearly 11 months of the position being vacant, while no party holds a parliamentary majority that would allow it to get its candidate to the Baabda Palace.
Le Drian said, in an interview with Agence France-Presse, after three months of starting a mission assigned to him by French President Emmanuel Macron to try to extricate Lebanon from its crisis: "It is important for the political parties to put an end to the unbearable crisis for the Lebanese and to try to find a compromise through a third option," referring to the stalled presidential election process.
