The closing ceremony of the 29th "Busan" International Film Festival took place at the Busan Cinema Center in the city of Busan, South Korea, with the presence of members of the jury for various competitive sections, attending cinematographers at the festival, cinema industry activists, and also art enthusiasts. The winners were presented in the "New Currents" competition section, the "Kim Jiseok Award" section, the "Mecenat Award" section for documentary films,
the "Sonje Award" section, the "FIPRESCI Award" section from the International Federation of Film Critics, the "NETPAC Award" section, and....
Best Film in the "New Currents" Competition
The members of the jury for the "New Currents" competition in the 29th edition of the "Busan" International Film Festival are; "Mohammad Rasoulof", an Iranian director and screenwriter - Chair of the jury, "LEE Myung-Se", a director from South Korea, "Zhou Dongyu", an actress from China, "Kani Kusruti", an actress from India, and "Vanja Kaludjercic", the director of the Rotterdam International Film Festival from the Netherlands, and they announced their votes as follows:
And the Best Film award in this section of the festival includes a cash prize of $30,000 for the film "The Land of Morning Calm" directed by "PARK Ri-woong", produced in South Korea, as well as the film "MA – Cry of Silence" directed by "MAW NAING", a co-production awarded from Myanmar, South Korea, Singapore, France, Norway, and Qatar.
Best Film "Kim Jiseok Award"
The members of the "Kim Jiseok Award" jury at this prestigious film event are; "Christian Jeune", the film section director at the "Cannes" International Film Festival from France - Chair of the jury, "Prasanna Vithanage", a director from Sri Lanka, and "Shin Suwon", a director from South Korea, and their votes are as follows:
The Best Film award in this section includes a cash prize of $10,000 for the film "Village Rockstars 2" directed by "Rima DAS", a co-production between India and Singapore, as well as the film "Yen and Ai-LEE" directed by Tom "LIN Shu-Yu", produced in Taiwan.
Best Documentary Film "Mecenat Award" Section
And the members of the jury for the documentary section "Mecenat Award" during this period of the festival are; "Mohsen Makhmalbaf" from Iran - Chair of the jury, "Asako Fujioka", the vice president of the "Yamagata" International Documentary Film Festival from Japan, and "Lee Soojung", a director from South Korea, as follows:
The Best Korean and Asian Documentary Film award in this section includes a cash prize of $7,400 for the documentary film "Works and Days" directed by "PARK Minsoo" and "AHN Kearny Hyun", produced in Taiwan, in addition to the documentary film "Another Home" directed by "Frankie SIN", a co-production between Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and France.
Best Short Film "Sonje Award"
The members of the jury for the "Sonje Award" section at the "Busan" International Film Festival include; the South Korean director and screenwriter "Lim Dae-hyung", the American director "Constance Tsang", and the Japanese director "Yamanaka Yoko", and they expressed their opinions as follows:
The Best Korean and Asian Short Film award in this section of the festival includes a cash prize of $7,400 for the short film "Yurim" directed by "SONG Jiseo", produced in Korea, as well as the short film "A Garden in Winter" directed by "Eléonore Mahmoudian" and "Hiroshi Matsui", a co-production between Japan and France.
Best Film "FIPRESCI Award"
The members of the jury for the "FIPRESCI Award" section from the International Federation of Film Critics at this artistic event are: "Teréz Vincze", a university professor and film critic from Hungary - Chair of the jury, "Hsin Wang", a film critic from Taiwan, and "Souewon Rhee", a film critic from South Korea, and the Best Film award in this section went to "Tale of the Land" directed by "Loeloe HENDRA", a co-production between Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Qatar.
Best Film "NETPAC Award" Section
The members of the "NETPAC Award" jury from the "Network for Promotion of Asian Pacific Cinema" during this period of the festival include; "IGARASHI Kohei", a director from Japan - Chair of the jury, "Herman VAN EYKEN", a university professor from Belgium, and "KIM Miyoung", a director from South Korea. They awarded the Best Film in this section to the film "The Land of Morning Calm" directed by "PARK Ri-woong", produced in South Korea.
Cinephile Award
The student jury for the "Wide Angle" competition section of this film event, composed of several students from cinema-related departments at six universities in the Busan area, announced the Best Korean and Asian Documentary Film as follows:
The "Cinephile Award" was granted to the documentary film "No Other Land" directed by "Basel Adra", "Hamdan Ballal", "Yuval Abraham", and "Rachel Szor", jointly awarded by the countries of Palestine and Nepal.
Audience Award
The Audience Award in the "New Currents" competition section during this period of the festival went to the film "The Land of Morning Calm" directed by "PARK Ri-woong", produced in South Korea. This film received the highest scores from the festival audience in this section.
"Busan" Certified by the International Federation of Film Producers (FIAPF)
The "Busan" International Film Festival is one of the largest and most important Asian film festivals and one of the 22 festivals certified by the International Federation of Film Producers (FIAPF). This prestigious film event is held annually with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of South Korea, the Busan City Municipality, and the Korean Film Council.

The 29th edition of the "Busan" International Film Festival showcased works from filmmakers around the world in several competitive sections, including; 10 feature films in the "New Currents" competition, 11 South Korean short films in the "Wide Angle" competition section, 10 Asian short films in the "Wide Angle" competition section, 10 documentaries in the "Open Frame" competition section, 8 films in the Kim Jiseok Award section, the "Mecenat Award" section for documentaries, the "NETPAC Award" section, the "Sonje Award" section, the "FIPRESCI Award" section, in addition to the non-competitive section including; 28 films in the "A Window on Asian Cinema" section, 5 films in the Gala section, 7 films in the "Open Cinema" section, 17 films in the "Icons" section, one Japanese short film and 17 documentaries in the "Showcase" section, 6 feature films in the "Midnight Passion" screening section, 6 films in the "On Screen" section, 9 films in the special section "Focus on Teen Spirit, Teen Films", 5 films in the tribute section for the famous Portuguese director "Miguel Gomes", 6 films in the tribute section for the late South Korean actor "Lee Sun-kyun", 29 films in the "Global Cinema" section, 23 films in the "Korea Today Cinema" section, 11 films in the "Flash Forward" section, the Asian Film Academy section, the Special Screening section, and specialized film workshop section for director "Miguel Gomes" and "Ann Hui", the Chinese Hong Kong director, the Asian Cinema Fund section, the Asian Film Market section, and several other sections; to be held from October 2 to 11, 2024, at Busan Cinema and other cinemas in Busan, South Korea.
