The Court of Queen's Bench in Manitoba decided on Monday to extend the temporary injunction issued last week against a group of protesters opposing the removal of the "Lemay" forest in Winnipeg.
In recent weeks, dozens have gathered near the forest in an attempt to stop the logging operations carried out by the "Toshal Development Group".
Despite the company’s lawyer, Kevin Twin, requesting to expand the injunction to completely remove protesters from the public areas surrounding the forest, Judge Sarah Innis rejected the request due to "insufficient evidence" proving the continuation of the blockade.
While the judge refused to include a clause preventing logging, the controversy over the project continues, as protesters plan to file their own injunctions to protect the forest, which they consider essential for children and the land.
