The day is divided between day and night, with 12 hours of night and another 12 hours of day, but there are places around the world where the sun does not set for more than 70 consecutive days, remaining above the horizon continuously for long periods during the summer months.
We will explore five countries where one can enjoy the midnight sun, such as
Svalbard, Norway
Norway is located within the Arctic Circle and is dubbed the "Land of the Midnight Sun." It is a well-known country that experiences no darkness for four months, as in Svalbard, the sun can shine continuously from April until late August.
Iceland
Iceland experiences the midnight sun in June, especially on Grimsey Island and in the city of Akureyri in northern Iceland.
Nunavut, Canada
Nunavut is situated two degrees above the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories of Canada, experiencing about two months of continuous sunlight. Additionally, the country enjoys pitch darkness for nearly 30 consecutive days during the winter.
Barrow, Alaska, USA
This phenomenon also occurs in Alaska, one of the coldest places in the world known for its snow-capped mountains and stunning glaciers, where the sun never sets from late May to late July, with the country experiencing continuous sunlight that is later compensated by a period known as the polar night that lasts from the beginning of November for the following 30 days.
Sweden
Similar to Alaska, parts of Sweden enjoy the midnight sun during the summer, and one can experience long periods of daylight from early May to late August. Sweden witnesses sunsets at midnight and sunrises around 4 AM, and some areas of the country enjoy continuous sunlight for up to six months, providing ample opportunities for adventurous activities such as golfing, fishing, and hiking.
