Global News published a video on all its social media platforms, titled "Stabbing Operations in Saskatchewan: The wave of violence is likely a symptom of intergenerational trauma," and here is what the video summarized according to their description:
People living in the James Smith Cree Nation in Saskatchewan believe that the Saskatchewan stabbing incidents are a symptom of the broader issue of addiction problems resulting from the intergenerational clash.
Ivor and Darryl Burns lost their sister Gloria in Sunday’s violent attack when they believed that two community members, brothers Damian and Miles Sanderson, had started a series of brutal assaults on the city's residents, killing ten people and injuring 18 others. But Darryl says the Sanderson brothers were caught in a circle of trauma and problems since childhood, leading them to frequent drug and alcohol abuse, which caused their psychological imbalance and led them to commit all those crimes. The brothers lived in their parents' home and then their grandparents' home, where they were subjected to all kinds of beatings, abuse, and neglect according to previous police reports.
In the video, Heather Yurick-West explains the vicious cycle in many Indigenous communities, what they hope to change, in addition to the spread of drug abuse in its various forms and alcohol and the breakdown of communication between generations as before. The presenter also praised that the people of Saskatchewan are still affected by the trauma of the incident and no longer feel safe after what happened.
