Afaf Al-Hammami, a specialist in aging diseases (Alzheimer's disease specialist), advised today, Thursday, children, youth, adults, and the elderly to maintain fasting due to the many benefits it has shown in scientific studies for mental health and brain health, refuting what some people promote about it causing loss of concentration.

She confirmed in a statement that maintaining fasting from an early age has several benefits, including long-term prevention of Alzheimer's disease, along with other advantages for mental and physical health.

She also explained that the brain feeds on glucose derived from sugars, but during fasting, it feeds on sugars stored in body fat and produces energy from them. Usually, the energy absorbed from fats is higher than the energy absorbed from glucose, which contributes to better concentration and higher quality. Fasting can also enable the production of new nerve cells.

She added that fasting, according to scientific studies, helps reduce inflammation of cells, including brain cells, thereby improving memory and cognitive abilities alongside contributing to mood improvement and increasing the happiness hormone.

She also concluded that given the benefits of fasting on brain health, people should practice it from a young age to prevent brain-related diseases.
