South Korean Minister of the Interior and Security, Lee Sang-min, announced today, Wednesday, that his country will conduct a strict investigation if doctors continue the collective refusal to provide medical services despite the government's order to return to work.

He added that while the government will continue its efforts to persuade the medical community, it will respond firmly in accordance with laws and principles against strikes that pose a danger to people's lives and health, according to Bloomberg News Agency.

He continued that the police and prosecutors will consult on taking strict measures including arrest and investigation against organizations and individuals leading the strike.

South Korean officials said today that more than 70% of trainee and resident doctors have resigned in protest against the government's plan to increase medical school quotas, with the government issuing an order for about 6,000 doctors to return to work.

Some surgeries were canceled and some patients had to move to other hospitals as trainee and resident doctors stopped working for the second consecutive day today, Wednesday.
