South Africa today, Friday, praised the "decisive victory" for the rule of international law, after the International Court of Justice ruled in its favor to impose urgent measures on Israel due to its military operations in Gaza.
The International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take measures to prevent and punish incitement to genocide.
The South African government said: "Today marks a decisive victory for the rule of international law and an important milestone in the pursuit of justice for the Palestinian people."
The court stated, "The State of Israel.. must take all measures within its power to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article Two of the Genocide Convention."
A large majority of the members of the International Court of Justice committee, consisting of 17 judges, voted in favor of urgent measures covering most of what South Africa requested, except for ordering a halt to Israeli military operations in Gaza.
The court ordered Israel to refrain from any acts that might fall under the Genocide Convention, and also to ensure that its forces do not commit any acts of genocide in Gaza.
