Severe thunderstorm with 55 mm of rain hits parts of southern Ontario

A severe thunderstorm warning has been announced for parts of Ontario with heavy rainfall expected to reach about 55 mm on Tuesday night.

The Canadian Ministry of Environment issued a severe thunderstorm warning in York - Durham at 5:50 PM. With heavy rainfall within one hour.

The Meteorological Agency said: "This severe thunderstorm is located 5 kilometers southeast of Janetville and is moving west at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour."

Shortly after, just before 6:20 PM, the Canadian Ministry of Environment also issued a warning for Peterborough - Kawartha Lakes.

"This semi-stationary cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from Lake Scugog to Bethany."

The Meteorological Agency informed residents in the affected areas of the province that flash floods and water accumulation can occur at any moment.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when one or more of the following are likely to be produced by a thunderstorm: large hail, damaging winds, or heavy rain.
