A young Saudi succeeded in using "compost" worms to recycle agricultural waste and convert it into fertilizers with high and valuable agricultural value.

Naif Al-Maliki talked about his unique project: "Worm farming is not new, but it was not widespread, and I started my project in 2017 by pure coincidence through a tweet I posted on my Twitter account in which I shared information that I liked about the benefits of worms and their role in agricultural reclamation."

He added: "I am currently working, through my project that includes more than a million worms, on providing farmers with organic fertilizers that have proven effective in supporting their products and reaching a high level of quality, in addition to benefiting from farm waste in fertilizing the soil from natural components and not burning it.

The extract of "compost" contributes to protecting plants from some fungal and bacterial diseases, as well as helping in feeding the plant because it contains all the elements necessary for their growth. Such projects can be utilized in traditional and hydroponic agriculture, and in producing fruit and leafy crops using organic farming systems."

Regarding the manufacturing method of "compost," Al-Maliki said: "We leach animal and agricultural waste from leaves and spoiled fruits through the compost pile, and after they are completely decomposed, we add them to worm farms, to create an environment ready as food for the worms that in turn secrete substances that convert all these materials into organic fertilizer known globally as black gold. Currently, I am striving hard to develop my project with all the mechanisms that achieve its success and advancement."
