The agent of Egyptian player Mohamed Salah confirmed his stay at the English club amid talks of a massive transfer to Saudi Arabia.
The Riyadh newspaper reported that Al-Ittihad club offered the Egyptian player a two-year contract worth £155 million, in addition to £52 million as a transfer fee.
Last summer, Salah, who is 31 years old, signed a new three-year contract that ends in June 2025 with Liverpool.
On the X platform (formerly Twitter), Rami Abbas Issa, Mohamed Salah's agent, wrote: "If we were thinking of leaving Liverpool this year, we wouldn't have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed Salah still insists on staying at Liverpool."
This summer, Liverpool sold both Brazilian Fabinho and Englishman Jordan Henderson (midfielders) to the Saudi clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq.
Mohamed Salah has scored 186 goals in 305 matches he participated in for Liverpool since joining from Italian Roma in 2017.
The Egyptian pharaoh has won with Liverpool the titles of: UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
Salah has also won the Premier League Golden Boot three times, either outright or shared, and has been named England’s Player of the Year twice.
The Saudi Pro League has attracted a number of the brightest stars in world football since Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, joined Al-Nassr from Manchester United last January.
Indeed, Al-Ittihad club has signed both French forward Karim Benzema (this year’s Ballon d'Or winner), Brazilian Fabinho, and former Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante, in addition to Portuguese forward Jota.
It is worth noting that Al-Ittihad club is currently managed by Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo, who previously managed Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton.
Other players who have also moved to play in Saudi Arabia include: Algerian Riyad Mahrez, Serbian Sergej Milinković-Savić, Senegalese Sadio Mané, Portuguese Rúben Neves, and French Allan Saint-Maximin.
Both Spanish coach Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and German coach Jürgen Klopp of Liverpool have sounded the alarm regarding Saudi Arabia's recruitment of global football stars.
Guardiola stated that the financial power of the Saudi Pro League has "changed the market" for player transfers, and that major clubs need to "pay attention to what is happening."
