The Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi announced that "the goal we are aiming for is to prevent the departure of migrant boats," in addition to "reaching a new European agreement to replace the Dublin rules."

The minister Piantedosi also confirmed, in an interview with the Vatican newspaper (Avvenire) on Tuesday: "We are facing one of the most serious social and economic crises in some African countries, and the irregular entries on the routes that affect other European countries in particular are increasing." He stated, "We have managed this exceptional flow with effective measures that have not been adopted before, and the goal we continue to set before us is to prevent departures."

The minister clarified that "the phenomenon of migration has changed over time, as have the reasons that fuel it." Therefore, "the laws that regulate it can change and adapt to the times, as long as this does not happen solely due to sterile ideological positions," indicating that "the new aspect is that the migration and asylum charter we have created will represent a substantial departure from the Dublin rules, which our President Mattarella described as obsolete."

Piantedosi added that "the great work we are doing regarding international scenarios, particularly by Prime Minister (Giorgia) Meloni, will lead as soon as possible to those stable and permanent solutions she herself referred to."

The minister also pointed out that "the decisions that have attracted the attention of the press are limited, even at the regional level, and are confined to the matters we will appeal on. Generally, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the decisions we make are confirmed in the courts as well," adding that "the government's actions are evaluated within the European context, balancing security needs and respecting the fundamental rights of people, and we will continue in this manner."
