Russia and Vietnam affirm their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The joint Russian-Vietnamese statement on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Russian-Vietnamese treaty on the fundamentals of friendly relations, today Thursday, stated that Russia and Vietnam oppose interference in the affairs of Middle Eastern countries.

The statement published on the official Kremlin website said: "The two parties agree on their desire to enhance peace and stability in the Middle East, oppose interference in the internal affairs of the countries in the region, and express their commitment to a comprehensive, just, and long-term settlement of the Palestinian issue based on a well-known peaceful and international legal framework, which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in peace and security with Israel," according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The Russian Federation and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam confirmed in a joint statement today Thursday that the relations between the two countries aim to enhance global stability and peace, and that they are not subject to geopolitical circumstances.

The official Kremlin website published the text of the statement in the context of the thirtieth anniversary of the Russian-Vietnamese treaty on the fundamentals of friendly relations, which stated: "Bilateral relations (Russian-Vietnamese) are not subject to geopolitical circumstances and aim to enhance peace, stability, and security in the Asia-Pacific region and in the world."

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived today Thursday at the presidential palace in Hanoi, where he held talks with the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam.
