For the first time since November, the smell of buttered popcorn spread in the air as QR codes for Manitoba residents' vaccine were scanned and they entered Landmark Cinema 8 Grant Park.
The CEO of Landmark Cinemas, Bill Walker, said it is limited to 50 percent capacity and only fully vaccinated people are allowed. He added that this option from the province is what is hindering their plans.
He added: "This is the first province where we have had to enforce vaccination to enter the cinema."
Viewers must wear a mask while scanning and purchasing tickets but can remove the cover once seated.
Walker encouraged residents by saying they have new movies to show, and this is the first time since the start of the pandemic.
Walker hopes to see a fully packed cinema within four to six weeks. According to the official document, the current public health orders are in effect until August 7 unless ended earlier.
