François Legault, Premier of Quebec, announced that he will meet today, Friday, with his federal counterpart Justin Trudeau and will ask him to transfer all immigration powers to Quebec.
The two leaders will meet in Montreal today, Friday, to discuss Legault's concerns about the immigration situation.
The Governor of Quebec announced that he will call for a reduction in the number of temporary immigrants and asylum seekers.
Legault confirmed that he will indeed present an alternative plan in case the federal government refuses to transfer all immigration powers to him.
He said: "There are options on the table, and we are already evaluating them."
It is worth noting that as of December 31, Quebec received 160,651 asylum seekers, representing 55.6% of the country's total, which places a lot of pressure on service delivery.
