Quebec's Finance Minister Eric Girard pledged that the currently ruling party will reduce income tax in a wise, responsible, and organized manner if re-elected next October. This announcement came following the Auditor General's annual report on the province's financial situation, and the minister praised the report as confirmation of Quebec's economic recovery and a forecast for future growth despite inflation, the war in Ukraine, and the pandemic.
Girard attributed this to the CAQ party's control over public finances, as he said in a Facebook post: "Thanks to balanced management, we have been able to increase funding for key tasks every year, and we are proud of these results."
It is worth noting that the CAQ party promised to provide more money to Quebec residents, and in May Quebec Premier François Legault pledged to send $500 checks to residents to help them cope with rising costs.
