Qatar: FIFA World Cup 2022... Japan causes an upset and defeats Germany

Japan's national team achieved a big win over Germany's national team with a score of 2-1 in the match held between them at Khalifa Stadium as part of the first round of Group E in the 2022 World Cup, which also includes Spain and Costa Rica.

Ilkay Gündogan scored the first goal for Germany from a penalty kick in the 30th minute of the first half.

In the second half, Ritsu Doan equalized for Japan in the 75th minute, then Takuma Asano added the second goal for Japan against Germany to take the lead 2-1 in the 83rd minute of the match.  
 

Salvadoran referee Iván Barton disallowed a goal by Japan's striker Maeda in the 5th minute for offside, and a goal by Germany's Kai Havertz in the 4th minute of first-half stoppage time.  
 

Jamal Musiala, aged 19 years and 270 days, is considered the youngest German player to play in a World Cup match since Karl-Heinz Schnellinger in 1958 (19 years and 72 days), and overall only three Germans younger than Musiala have participated in the World Cup.

Manuel Neuer is the first German goalkeeper to participate in 4 World Cup tournaments, surpassing his compatriot Sepp Maier who only participated in 3 tournaments.

The starting lineup of Japan also includes 6 players who have played in German clubs: Maya Yoshida, Ko Itakura, Wataru Endo, Ao Tanaka, Daichi Kamada, Sakai.

Germany is participating in its 20th World Cup final in its history, having qualified for all tournaments except those in 1930 and 1950, and has won the title 4 times: 1954, 1974, 1990, and 2014.

While the Japanese team is participating for the seventh time consecutively in the 2022 World Cup, with one tournament having been held on its soil and in front of its fans.

Hans Flick, the national coach, chose Germany's lineup for the match against Japan as follows:

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer.

Defense: Rüdiger, David Raum, Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle.

Midfield: Gündogan, Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller. 

Attack: Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala.

Meanwhile, Japan's lineup was as follows:

Goalkeeper: Gonda.

Defense: Sakai, Yoshida, Itakura, Nagatomo.

Midfield: Endo, Tanaka, Minamino, Kamada, Kubo.

Attack: Maeda.

Germany leads in terms of market value with 885 million euros, compared to 154 million for Japan, a difference of more than 700 million euros between the two teams.

Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich player, tops the list of the most expensive players in the Germany vs. Japan match with 100 million euros, while Daichi Kamada, star of Eintracht Frankfurt, stands at 30 million euros.
