Many officials in the U.S. administration criticized Kamala Harris's performance, accusing her of "not living up to" the position she holds.
U.S. President Joe Biden feels frustrated with his vice president Kamala Harris. According to the British newspaper "Daily Express," Biden believes that Harris's handling of matters "does not live up to the occasion."
The newspaper mentioned that despite the almost certain expectation that Harris will run alongside Biden in next year's election for a new presidential term, this has not prevented some Democrats from conveying Biden's annoyance with her.
This comes despite the great effort Biden makes to praise his vice president in all his recent public statements, but White House insiders claimed that there is a reason for Biden's frustration with her, which is her inability to take on more sensitive and risky tasks.
A former U.S. official told Reuters, "The point of tension between the president and his vice president is that the latter does not lend him a helping hand in dealing with issues due to her fear of failure." Another official wondered: "If he did not think she was capable, then why did he choose her to be his vice president? There is always talk about her living up to the occasion. I believe his running again for election has less to do with her and more to do with him."
However, despite what is said behind closed doors, Biden's praises of his vice president have not stopped. Last Wednesday, during an event prepared to celebrate Women's History Month, Biden addressed Harris saying, "As you know, the wonderful vice president, you have broken many barriers, mostly on your own."
Biden continued, "The first woman to serve as district attorney in San Francisco and the first woman to hold the position of attorney general in the state of California... Doug [Harris’s husband], you had a wonderful partner in this historic progress."
President Biden also thanked Harris last Thursday during a ceremony held to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the healthcare reform law established by former President Barack Obama.
According to "Daily Express," this is not the first time reports of tension between Biden and Harris have appeared. In a book titled The Fight of His Life, writer Chris Whipple mentions that the vice president is merely a "work in progress," and that the president is annoyed by complaints from Harris’s husband, Douglas Emhoff, about the tasks assigned to her.
The book said, "Biden is annoyed. He did not ask Harris to do anything he did not do when he was vice president."
In a related context, and another blow to Harris’s performance, a poll conducted by Monmouth University this month, with 748 registered voters responding, showed that 53 percent disapprove of Harris’s performance while only 37 percent supported her.
These figures were not better than those of the previous poll in last January, which included 1,000 people, where the vice president was supported by 29 percent while 57 percent criticized her performance.
