Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Sunday that Canada will support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, no matter how long it takes and as much as necessary, including training Ukrainian soldiers, and possibly training pilots.
Trudeau, who said he assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of his support during the G7 summit in Hiroshima, told reporters at a press conference: "We always look forward to doing more when it comes to supporting Ukraine."
Trudeau and other G7 leaders - which also includes the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, and Italy - sent a clear signal to Russia this week about their strong support for Ukraine.
When asked about training the Ukrainian army, Trudeau said Canada would continue training soldiers, and it is likely to expand training to include pilots.
President Joe Biden and senior U.S. officials told G7 leaders on Friday that Washington supports allied programs to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighters.
