Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada "unequivocally condemns" Iran's attacks on Israel.

His statement comes after state-run Iranian media announced that Tehran launched ballistic missiles at targets within Israel on Saturday in Iran's first direct military attack on the country.

Israel also reported that Iran launched over 100 drones carrying bombs in its direction.

U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they intercepted some of the missiles headed for Israel.

For his part, Trudeau confirmed that he receives regular updates from the National Security and Intelligence Advisor, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Head of the Privy Council.

Additionally, Israel closed its airspace on Saturday in anticipation of the attacks.

The conflict between the two countries escalated this week after an airstrike blamed on Israel destroyed the Iranian consulate in Syria, and Iran vowed to retaliate.

Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said on Friday that Canadians should avoid travel to Israel in light of the increasing risks.

She indicated that Canadians remaining in Israel should leave "by commercial means."

Meanwhile, Air Canada announced that it canceled its flight on Saturday to Tel Aviv, operating four direct round trips weekly from Toronto to Tel Aviv. The next scheduled flight is on Monday.

A spokesperson for the company stated, "We have also implemented a flexible rebooking policy for customers and will continue to monitor the situation in the region and adjust our schedule accordingly."

Conservative MP Michael Chong, who serves as the Foreign Affairs Critic, stated that his party condemns the Iranian attack and stands with Israel.

He wrote on X: "Conservatives call on the Trudeau government to work with Canada’s allies to ensure the security and regional stability of Israel."
