Power has been restored to all customers affected by the massive outage in downtown Toronto, which forced some companies to restore tens of thousands of hydro customers in downtown Toronto to power after a major outage on Thursday that forced some companies to close and caused headaches due to traffic congestion at traffic lights.

Power was restored just before 8 p.m. today, Thursday, nearly eight hours after the outage began.

David LeViter, Chief Operating Officer at Hydro One, said in a statement Thursday evening: "Safety is always our top priority, and we know this power outage made today very difficult for many of you, and we appreciate your patience."

Adding, "We had all resources available to help restore power as quickly and safely as possible."

David LeViter also said, "I would like to thank everyone affected by this outage for their patience and Toronto Fire and Toronto Hydro for their cooperation."

On the other hand, Hydro One said that a crane in an upright position on a barge traveling in the Port Lands Ship Channel collided with three high-voltage transmission lines, causing further damage to equipment at the power station near The Esplanade, resulting in a power outage throughout the heart of downtown.
