A protester was arrested on Wednesday after throwing eggs and sharp criticism at King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, while they were walking in the city of York, northern England.

The incident occurred as the king and his wife were entering York through Micklegate Bar, a medieval gate where kings are traditionally welcomed into the city.

Video footage also showed several broken eggs on the ground, and none appeared to have hit the royal couple, who continued greeting the crowds. Several police officers were seen struggling with a man at the crowd barrier.

The Palestinian news agency affiliated with the Palestinian Authority also reported that he shouted boos and screamed, "This country is built on the blood of slaves," during his arrest. Other members of the crowd tried to drown him out with chants of "Shame on you" and "God save the king."

Also, Charles and Camilla traveled to York as part of a series of engagements around the UK marking the start of the new king's reign. They visited York Minster Cathedral and unveiled a statue of the king’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September after 70 years on the throne.
