For many parents, finding suitable daycare and childcare options in Ontario is likely to be a significant challenge, especially for those who work long hours with inflexible schedules.
The limited availability of 24-hour daycare in Ontario, and generally affordable childcare options in Ontario, can make it difficult to balance work and family responsibilities.
But one woman is trying to change that, as a mother of two has decided to open her own private daycare in Ontario, which will be able to provide childcare according to all types of parents' schedules.
The Daycare of Colours, scheduled to open in Greater Sudbury, will offer 24-hour daycare services year-round. The daycare also aims to provide "reliable, flexible, and family-oriented" childcare services.
In this regard, Jessan Lacasse, the owner of the daycare, wrote in a Facebook post: “In the city of Sudbury, there are more than 75 licensed childcare centers, but none of them are available according to parents' conditions and open after 6:00 PM on weekdays, weekends, or holidays.”
She added: “I am proud to offer childcare that suits anyone's lifestyle.”
Likewise, Lacasse pledges that her daycare will allow parents to drop off and pick up their children at any time of the day or night.
A separate post on Facebook states that Daycare of Colors will be a “licensed and independent childcare center,” although it has not received any funding and has applied for government support from the city of Sudbury.
Also, according to Jessan Lacasse, the city said it will not allow new daycare centers to open due to existing agreements with 18 providers who have more than 75 daycare centers.
She wrote: “I will not receive any grants from the city for my staff or my center, so I have done my best to be able to run the daycare center without city assistance.”
She said she is committed to paying her employees from her own money, including work on holidays, and created a GoFundMe page in November last year to help raise funds for her daycare.
It is worth noting that Jessan Lacasse hopes to open the daycare on April 1st.
