The US Geological Survey reported that a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck northern Philippines today, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, where residents of the capital Manila reported their buildings shaking, while no casualties have been reported.
The earthquake shook Abra province on Luzon Island at 8:43 AM local time (00:43 GMT), according to Agence France-Presse.
The local earthquake agency in the Philippines warned that it expects damage as a result of the severe tremor.
The US Geological Survey initially stated that the magnitude of the earthquake recorded on Wednesday was 6.8.
The Philippines is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which accounts for 90 percent of the world's recorded earthquakes.
