The leader of the Parti Québécois, Paul Saint-Pierre Plamondon, confirmed on Friday that he received death threats.

The PQ leader confirmed this information during a press conference held in Montreal.

Saint-Pierre Plamondon was clearly upset, as the threats were directed at him and his family, and he had to interrupt the impromptu briefing.

He said, "It is my private life, but everything that is public (indeed) I can confirm."

He explained that it took four days between receiving the death threats and the arrest of the suspect.

He congratulated the Sûreté du Québec on "their excellent work."

He added, "The investigation is still ongoing today."

For its part, Quebec security simply confirmed that a complaint was received on March 4 and that investigators arrested a man from the Greater Montreal area on March 8, concerning threats directed against a member of the National Assembly.

The prosecution explained that the suspect was released with a promise to appear in court.

The police added that a search of the person's home was conducted, resulting in the seizure of computers. The threat message was sent via email.

Liberal Marwa Rizki, who herself was threatened in 2022, wanted to show support for the leader of the Justice Party and his wife and their three children.

She said, "It is a very worrying time for them. No elected official should go through this kind of moments."
