If you received a speeding ticket from a photo radar in Ottawa this summer, it may have been a mistake.
A city memo on Wednesday reported that about 1500 tickets were incorrectly issued at two speed camera locations between July 1 and August 15.
The memo from Carol Hall, the city's Assistant Director of Traffic Services, said: "The technical issue has now been resolved and tickets issued in error will be canceled."
One camera is located on Abbott Street East between Moss Hill Trail and Shea Road, near Sacred Heart High School in Stittsville.
The other is on Alta Vista Drive between Ayers and Ridgemont Streets, near Ridgemont and St. Patrick High Schools and Charles H. Hulse Public School.
The memo stated that as a result of the technical issue, speeding tickets continued to be issued based on the posted 40 km/h speed limit in July and August.
The city said drivers who received tickets in error will have their tickets canceled by the end of September.
They were also asked not to pay the fines imposed on them. Those who paid will be reimbursed by the end of October.
They do not need to take any action to recover their money. Ticket recipients should check the date and location of the speeding violation to confirm whether their ticket was issued in error.
The city also notified the Joint Processing Centre in Toronto, where all Ottawa speed camera tickets are processed.
Hall said in the memo: "Communication procedures have been reviewed, as well as the quality of documentation shared with both the Joint Processing Centre."
