A shiny object seen sparkling across the sky on a bright sunny morning in Ottawa was a meteor.

Terry Kay sent a video on the CTV News Ottawa dash camera showing an object moving across the sky at 10:06 a.m. on Sunday.

An employee at Bell Media reported seeing a meteor at about the same time, saying it looked like a "shooting star, but its tail was red/orange/yellow."

Another person on Twitter also reported seeing a small meteor while heading northwest towards Gatineau.

Dr. Robert Thacker, a professor at Saint Mary's University and head of research in physics and astronomy at Canada, told CTV News Ottawa that the object visible in the sky was most likely a meteor.

Physics and astronomy scientist and assistant professor at York University Jesse Rogerson told CTV News Ottawa that the meteor is called a "bolide" because it is very bright.

NASA says meteor showers can be seen coming from the direction of the Aquarius constellation and the area best visible in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as southern latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere.

It will also peak in mid-August, according to NASA.
