A firefighter died in a parachuting accident in Arnprior, Ontario. He suffered fatal injuries "during the landing process following an advanced parachute maneuver," according to the parachuting company.

Jeff Dean, 45, from Fitzroy Harbour, died at Arnprior Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement, Parachute Ottawa said Dean's parachute deployed correctly during the jump.

Parachute Ottawa said Thursday morning, "The parachute was fully functional and operating properly."

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating, in coordination with the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

Parachute Ottawa says Dean was a highly experienced skydiver. The company said, "Jeff Dean is a beloved member of the Parachute Ottawa family and a pioneer in the Canadian skydiving community."

"As a skydiving instructor across the country, our community is in shock over this loss.

Jeff Dean joined the Ottawa Fire Service as a volunteer in 2010 and became a full-time member in 2012.

Paul Hutt, Ottawa's fire chief, said in a message sent to the Ottawa Fire Service: "Jeff was doing something he loved, which was skydiving." "He was a wonderful person, a firefighter, and a leader of the Fire Ventures program.

The news of his death is difficult for the entire fire service family." Parachute Ottawa also says it is working with the Ontario Provincial Police in their investigations.
