Residents of East Ottawa have raised concerns about rats roaming the neighborhood this year.
New statistics show that one in seven complaints about rats received by the City of Ottawa this year came from Orléans.
The City of Ottawa says 734 complaints about rats were submitted between January 1 and August 21.
"After the call, city staff investigate rodent-related service requests on private property, deal with rodents living in or traveling through sewers, and provide information and educational support on how to inspect for, prevent, and respond to rats, including recommendations on how to properly store food and garbage," said Water Services Director Marilyn Gurno in a statement to CTV News Ottawa.
If rats are observed in the city's sewer system, Public Works and Environmental Services will bait the sewers to address the problems.
The 311 phone line received 1,197 reports and complaints about rats up to 2021, and 842 complaints in 2020.
Statistics provided to CTV News Ottawa show that residents of Orléans have filed the largest number of rat complaints so far this year, with 100 reports to the city's 311 service.
In 2021, there were 115 complaints about rats. Capital ranked second on the list for most rat complaints with 68, followed by residents of Rideau-Vanier with 58 complaints, Barrhaven, Rideau Rockcliffe, and College Ward with 53 complaints each.
