One of the main organizers of the Freedom Convoy protests, named Chris Barber, filed a lawsuit against the federal government; following the decision to apply the Emergencies Act to freeze his bank accounts, on the grounds that this violates his Charter right to protest the COVID-19 restrictions at the time.
Barber owns a trucking company in southwest Saskatchewan, who filed the lawsuit before the King's Bench Court in Saskatchewan, stating in his claim that the federal government misused its authority
in applying the Emergencies Act to confront the Freedom Convoy protests, which started from the Canadian capital, Ottawa, during the COVID-19 outbreak.
He also reported that the application of the emergency act prevented him from conducting his basic financial transactions and living normally, which caused him distress and inconvenience in his life, damaged his business relationships, and harmed his work.
It is noteworthy that this lawsuit came weeks after the issuance of the federal court ruling; where Judge Richard Mosley ruled that the federal government's use of the Emergencies Act to address the protests
