One month after temporarily closing the intensive care unit in Ontario due to a "severe staff shortage," the hospital has no timetable for when the ICU will reopen its doors.
On July 28, Lakeridge Health said it made the "difficult decision" to temporarily relocate the intensive care unit at Bowmanville Hospital and transfer care to Ajax Pickering and Oshawa hospitals.
Lakeridge spokesperson Sharon Navarro told CTV News Toronto on Wednesday, "We have restored some critical care nursing services at Bowmanville Hospital, and we continue working hard to stabilize staffing in order to fully restore services in the intensive care unit."
This comes as the Ontario government released the next phase of its "plan" on Thursday, ahead of the expected rise in respiratory illnesses in the coming months.
