The Ministry of Health announced that doctors in Ontario will now have to prescribe Ozempic only to patients with type 2 diabetes.
Ozempic is intended for diabetic patients, but it is often used for weight loss.
However, there is currently a shortage of the medication in Canada.
Doug Ford's government said it wants to ensure that diabetic patients get the treatment they need.
For her part, Hannah Jensen, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, explained that this measure was taken to preserve supplies for those who need Ozempic more than others.
She added that Ontario is following the lead of other provinces that have intervened to protect their supplies.
