The Ontario government canceled the wage cap bill on Friday by order in council.

The government had previously promised to cancel the legislation after losing their appeal in court, and they announced the cancellation in a press release on Friday morning.

Officials said: "The cancellation of the bill will solve the inequality problem among workers caused by the recent court decision."

The bill, which set wage increases for public sector workers for three years, has been a point of contention for Doug Ford's government since it received royal assent in 2019.

The province said it was a necessary and time-limited step to help eliminate the deficit.

However, labor groups confirmed that the bill violates their rights to collective bargaining and filed a lawsuit against the government.
