Ontario Premier Doug Ford will make an announcement in Niagara Falls today, Friday.
He will be joined by Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney at 12 noon.
Earlier this week, Ford was in the Maritimes to meet with his East Coast counterparts to discuss healthcare in Canada.
Locally, Ontario's healthcare system has been strained due to staff shortages during the summer months, forcing some emergency rooms to close for hours or even days at a time.
Premiers announced at a joint press conference on Monday that there is a need to fix the country's healthcare issues, but they did not provide any details.
For his part, Ford said that premiers across the country and the federal government must draw on ideas to fix the healthcare system from nurses, doctors, and hospital chiefs, adding that he is confident these experts will find a "solution."
Ford said at the time: "We look forward to a collaborative relationship with the federal government." "This is the Team Canada approach we need to follow."
Last week, the province unveiled a plan for "stabilizing and recovering the healthcare system," a strategy that includes freeing up beds in hospitals and long-term care facilities , hiring thousands of new healthcare workers, and investments in independent institutions and private clinics that provide OHIP services.
After the announcement, healthcare unions and workers in Ontario spoke out, criticizing the government's efforts saying they have "serious concerns" about the plan and its lack of interest in repealing Bill 124, the legislation that limits nurses' salaries to a one percent annual increase.
