The Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party have reached an agreement to establish a framework legislation for pharmaceutical care.
New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh confirmed this agreement on Friday.
The plan to create a single-payer drug care system is part of the Liberal-New Democratic Party agreement.
The agreement, which was made nearly two years ago, stipulates the New Democratic Party's support for the Liberals until 2025 in exchange for progress on certain political priorities, including drug care.
But the New Democratic Party indicated that the deadline it set for the Liberals on March 1 to present the framework legislation for pharmaceutical care might be a red line, as Singh warned in early February that he would notify the Prime Minister "about this issue."
Singh said he would interpret the missed deadline as the Liberals withdrawing from their agreement.
