Russian authorities allowed the mother of the Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, who died in a Russian prison, to see her son's body after days of waiting.
Lyudmila Navalnaya said in a video clip published online today, Thursday, that she saw her son's body in the morgue but did not receive it.
According to Russian authorities, Navalny died last Friday in a prison camp in Siberia. Since then, his mother has been seeking to reclaim his body.
She again demanded in the video clip that the body be handed over to her so she can bury him. She accused Moscow of wanting to bury Navalny secretly.
Reports stated that the politician, who weakened after being poisoned in 2020 and due to repeated periods in solitary confinement in the camp, collapsed during exercise time in the prison yard in weather conditions where the temperature reached freezing, and died despite attempts to revive him. He was 47 years old. The cause of death was not clear.
