The Montreal Fire Department said that search and rescue boats from the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) and the fire department found the body of a potential drowning victim near Verdun Beach.
SPVM divers are expected to arrive soon to retrieve the body.
Martin Gilbo, head of the Montreal Fire Service, said a call came in around 4:45 PM yesterday, Friday, reporting a potential drowning.
Gilbo added that boats from the Montreal Fire Service and SPVM were immediately dispatched, and they were eventually able to locate the victim using sonar and cameras.
He added, “We are starting a long weekend tonight, so please respect your limits when it comes to swimming. Make sure to swim in an area where there is a lifeguard and where it is safe for you to swim.”
